the art of madness - Nathan Angelo

This is a blog dedicated to all of you out there who appreciate the random 'art of madness' that the wonderful world of technology has placed at our finger tips and into our pockets. You will find, here, all things Nathan Angelo: some will be funny, some stupid, some informative, and there might even be things that are musical as well.

‘Love Sucks’ (glee club version) - performed by THUNK, an acappella group from Northwestern University

From the hit tv-show Glee to NBC’s acappella competition Sing Off, a revival of Glee Clubs is sweeping the nation! I think it’s too soon to say what the lasting effects of this movement will be on our culture & the influence it has on music - if any.* One thing I do know for sure, America likes loves can’t get enough of pop music! ‘Let’s take a great song, make it our own & give it a go.’ I can’t argue with that. Some of music’s most influential bands started as cover bands: the Rolling Stones & the Beatles.** So I’ll jump to a quick conclusion and assume that all the effects will be postive.***

A few years back, someone told me to check out a video on youtube of an acappella group covering one of my songs - Mary Poppins’ Birds. To be totally honest, I was as-giddy-as-a-school-boy for a few hours. I loved the idea that these folks had pulled apart my song line by line to find the rhythm & harmonies to shape a presentable acappella piece. When a friend pointed this particular performance out to me a few days ago, I thought it might be a nice treat to share with all of you - who have helped me spread my music all across this fabulous country.

For this ‘Tuesday Treat’, I present to you an acappella version of Love Sucks performed by a co-ed group THUNK from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL). I have never been to Evanston, IL, but I’d love to share some music with this talented crew.**** From the looks of it, they had a theme for their performance. Also, they changed a few words throughout the song to fit the vibe of the ‘emo’ front man - and I call him ‘emo’ simply because the word ‘emo’ is written on the pink sheet of paper that serves as a kind of name tag. :)

One last thing: If you read this - ‘emo’ front man & THUNK: I love the attitude in this performance - go on with your bad selves!!!

*I mean…let’s get serious. Karaoke bars have been around since before the dawn of time, right? I can’t imagine a world without karaoke!

**Seriously, there’s no reason for me to name any more bands after these two ‘monsters’.

***Because, quite frankly…it’s just easier to jump to a conclusion.

****Perhaps, a COMPLIMENTARY show is in order as a ‘Thank-You’ for spreading my music around.
