the art of madness - Nathan Angelo

This is a blog dedicated to all of you out there who appreciate the random 'art of madness' that the wonderful world of technology has placed at our finger tips and into our pockets. You will find, here, all things Nathan Angelo: some will be funny, some stupid, some informative, and there might even be things that are musical as well.

Shane Henry (featuring Nathan Angelo) - Butterflies

I’ve spent a majority of my time co-writing songs over the past few years. There’s something exciting and special about sitting in a room* with another songwriter, trying to chisel away at a song until it is completed & hopefully beautiful, fun or inspiring in some way. It must have been how Michelangelo felt before he took a stab** at that unbalanced and imperfect rock that later became the statue of David. Am I saying that I feel as accomplished and prolific as the great Michelangel? Absolutely, not! But there is beauty in the struggle and in the art of waiting for the right lyric or the melody that makes even us songwriters a bit giddy.

Time surely tells which songs will see the light of day & which ones were good for practicing the craft.*** This song has a vibe & simplicity to it that I strive to find in a song. It might be my favorite jam that I was a part of writing in 2011.

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble. Here’s to many more songs!

*Or sitting in two separate rooms thousands of miles away. We wrote this song via Skype. I was in Atlanta, GA & he was in Oklahoma City, OK.

**Pun intended.

***Songwriting friends- Don’t be afraid to write a bad song. It’s gonna happen. Finish it and move along. Sometimes you just need to get the bad ones out of your system.

Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away, that the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted from our fear-drenched communities, and that in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all of their scintillating beauty.

I just finished reading this letter. It stopped me in my tracks. This excerp is the closing of the letter which brought a few tears to my eyes. What a dream!

This has been one of the most satisfying years of my career. The warm reception of ‘Follow Your Heart’ & ‘Acoustic Review’ has been a reminder that good folks support good art. YOUR acceptance & support for my music has truly been the fruit of my labor. I had a blast sharing these songs with you fine folks across the country. Thanks again for your continued support!

I put together a photo & video montage of 2011. The music that is playing is my new song — Come Around — from ‘Acoustic Review’. It is now available on iTunes. Head over there and pick it up if you haven’t already: http://tiny.cc/y12eh

Nathan Angelo - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (music by Hugh Martin & lyrics by Ralph Blane)

Video Direction: Station 16 Creative http://www.station16.com

Christmas is most certainly my favorite season of the year! I thought I’d take a second and play you one of my favorite Christmas songs. I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to pass it along.

Also, spend time with the ones you love this Christmas season. Let them know that you are fortunate to have them in your life. Give thanks to God for the gift of Jesus, the CHRIST. And above all….be sure to have yourself a merry little Christmas, now.

PS- If you need some help getting into the Christmas spirit, come join me and a few of my favorite artists/friends (Ryan Horne, Micah Dalton & Jonathan Rich) at Eddie’s Attic tomorrow night. We are playing 2 shows. I WILL PLAY THIS SONG!!! It was a blast last year. This year will be even better. For more info: http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/330910526923359/
